Friends of the Beerline Trail

The Friends of the Beerline Trail, formerly the Guiding Lens, is a resident-led group with a concentration on invasive species removal, native planting, and education about various growing and gardening methodologies. For over a decade, this group of Harambee and Riverwest residents have worked alongside Riverworks, creating RPF processes for art along the trail, regular trail cleanups and weeding, and involvement with the Watermarks project in Julia's Corner and the Connector Building. In 2024 the Friends of the Beerline planted their first pollinator garden, in between Streetlights and the Circus Mural.

In 2025 the Friends continued this work, planting 700 native perennials up and down the trail. In early 2026, the Friends announced their 5-Year Plan to transform the Beerline Trai into a thriving pollinator corridor. Since that announcement, the Friends of the Beerline, with funding from Faith in Place and Safe & Sound, and support from Riverworks, planned and planted a pollinator garden for the Rusty Patched bumblebee, a native, at risk bee species. 800 native plants were placed along the trail just north of Cafe Corazon, in the former People's Rink area.

The Friends of the Beerline plan to continue this restoring and revitalizing the trail,  creating a pollinator corridor from Bremen and Burleigh, creating an unbroken chain of habitat through the heart of Harambee, Riverwest, and WIlliamsburg Heights. Urban green corridors like the Beerline Trail, and Kuumba Art Park, when used for native planting, provide natural cooling, stormwater management, and air & noise buffering.
